Empowered by the section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act 1955 and West Bengal Cooking Gas (License and Control) Order, 1985 of the Government of West Bengal, the Directorate of Consumer Goods under Department of Food & Supplies regulates the distribution of Kerosene oil through the Public Distribution System through a network of Agents and Dealers.
The Director of Consumer Goods (DCG) in case of Kolkata and Bidhannagar or the District Magistrate in the districts is the licensing authority for the Dealers to a person eligible to carry on trade in LPG/Cooking Gas after receiving application from him/her and license fee as mentioned below, provided that no license shall be granted without the approval of the State Government.
The licenses are renewed every year.
