THE WEST BENGAL STATE FOOD COMMISSION
Constitution
The West Bengal State Food Commission was constituted by the Government of West Bengal vide notification 3658-F.S. dated 21.11.2017 of Food & Supply Department, Government of West Bengal which reads : “ In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section(1) of section 16 of the National Food Security Act 2013(20 of 2013)(hereinafter referred to as the said Act),the Governor is pleased hereby to constitute, with an immediate effect, the West Bengal State Food Commission with its headquarters at Kolkata, to exercise the powers conferred on, and to perform the functions assigned to, it under the said Act.
Composition
As per section 16 of the NFSA, the State Food Commission shall consist of:
- A Chairperson
- Five(5) members and
- A member Secretary
Presently it consists of only the Chairperson.
Location
The Commission has its office at Khadya Bhawan,11A,Mirza Ghalib Street,Kolkata-700087 .
Function
As per Section 16(6) of the National Food Security Act, 2013, the State Food Commission shall undertake to :
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the mentioned Act, in relation to the State;
- Either suo motu or on receipt of any complaint (s) inquire into violations of entitlements;
- Give advice to the State Government ,its agencies, autonomous bodies as well as non-government organizations involved in delivery of relevant services, in the matter of effective implementation of food and nutrition related schemes, to enable individuals to fully avail of their entitlements specified in this Act;
- Hear appeals against orders of the District Grievance Redressal Officer;
- Prepare annual reports to be laid before the State Legislature by the State Government.
